"Traveler": It's important that you understand what the word "traveler" really means, in terms of Airhitch®. We hint at it in the epigrammatic paraphrase from Paul Bowles on our homepage, so just in case you missed it:

"There is a vast difference between a 'tourist' and a 'traveler.' The 'tourist' goes to visit a faraway place, stays for a few days or weeks, and then returns home. But the 'traveler' is at home wherever he may be visiting."

But there's another element in the Airhitch® definition of "traveler" that's very important to grasp for anyone thinking of becoming an Airhitcher, and that is, the element of INTRINSIC VALUE, i.e., of engaging in a process FOR ITS OWN SAKE.

For the Airhitch® system was never intended by its founders for people simply trying to get across distance for purposes external to the travel itself, like, e.g., making money thru "business", special events like weddings or concerts or sporting events, meetings with specific individuals, linking up with guided tours, etc. (although obviously the system CAN be used for such purposes, it DOESN'T WORK AS WELL when people try to use it for this kind of stuff as it does when they use it for just traveling for its own sake -- for the sheer joy of geographical exploration and of cutting loose from one's habitual environment just to experience and find out about what's "out there", as well as for learning about HOW to travel -- the kinds of things that contribute to "travel wisdom").
