It's radical. It's a form of hitchhiking. It's called "exploratory travel." It's called AIRHITCH®! If you can grasp a few basic, simple principles (though they may be somewhat surprising!), you can structure your trip as you go...and hang onto your money for use as and when you need it -- using, if necessary, the Internet from wherever you are, to plug into and stay in touch with the worldwide community of Airhitchers for help in locating the "best deals" of the moment -- thus avoiding virtually any costly advance commitment and potentially saving yourself hundreds of bucks!
Confusing already??? Check out "Airhitch® Step-by-Step", our "bare-bones" guide to getting where you're going on, well, bare bones! But keep firmly in mind the idea that the primary objective of hitchhiking (and, thus Airhitching®) is to minimize your travel costs and maximize your travel freedom; and that, though hitchhiking is never "easy" compared to other forms of travel, Airhitching the Atlantic and Pacific corridors connecting North America with Europe and Hawaii (respectively) is the "easiest" Airhitching; so if you're headed anywhere else, you might also want to take a look at our "Target Flights®" page, where you can enlist the collaboration and support (and draw on decades' worth of budget, unstructured, exploratory travel experience) of the Airhitch® Online Staff to help you minimize your cost and maximize your freedom as you move along ANY itinerary!
Another good way to get deconfused is to just head for our registration page and do a "dry run," filling out the registration form up to the point where you would click "submit" -- but *don't* click "submit", because you are not committed to anything until you do. Just use it to learn the "nuts'n'bolts" of how the system functions (including the costs involved in your particular travel situation!). But remember: the instant you click "submit," your learning will no longer be private, you will be in communication with us and committed to participation in the Airhitch® program!
Interested in the history, philosophy, the "why" of things, as well as just the "what" and "how?" Check out a relatively recent article on the history and philosophy, the "whys and wherefores" of Airhitch®, by its founder, from Arthur Frommer's website: http://www.frommers.com/newsletters/12-01-97/article4.html. If for any reason you can't find this page through the hyperlink above (Frommer's online staff sometimes take it down from time to time), just try THIS ONE. Also, if you've never hitchhiked, you may want to familiarize yourself with what hitchhiking is all about by visiting an excellent site devoted to the art/science/ethos of hitchhiking at www.digihitch.com.
