What does "formal commitment" to the Airhitch® system/process entail?

Committing to Airhitch® for any given trip means that you agree to be bound by the common effort/ethos of all Airhitchers, which is to MINIMIZE COST and MAXIMIZE FREEDOM on any instance of crossing an ocean.

This essentially means that, unless you, working on your own, can find a way to cross the ocean AT A LOWER NET-EFFECTIVE CASH OUTLAY (NECO) than is possible through our collaborative efforts -- regardless of whether our efforts make it possible by AIRHITCHING or REGULAR CONFIRMED SEATS -- with no sacrifice in your personal freedom of movement, you are committed to actually taking the flight we help you find. (There are no penalties for not doing this other than the penalites you would impose upon yourself by not doing it, i.e., the extra unnecessary cost and/or unnecessary loss of freedom of movement!)

But note that this is not a financial commitment; rather, it's on the "honor system", because no money changes hands until/unless you board a flight which was found -- either by you or by us -- through the joint, collaborative efforts of you and the AOS, working together.

The only financial agreement is nominal ($29 per person per leg) and voluntary on your part (and, thus, not a "commitment" at all), and only comes into play if you decide NOT to follow your Airhitching process through to completion (i.e., not to board a flight you have located thru the collaborative efforts of the AOS, but instead, "go your own way" and find some other flight by other means, at greater cost or with more restrictions) despite there being clear and objective criteria which would make it beneficial for you to do so.

Note that this charge is purely voluntary in nature, and if you really want to be a not-so-nice person, you can refuse to pay it, and no harm will befall you, we will only leave you with your conscience! [However, you can possibly expect, if you're wise, that the next time you might approach Airhitch® for help with a trip, we will probably not be as enthusiastic and joyful about working with you as we would be if you were enthusiastic and joyful enough about our system to SUPPORT IT!]

But, by the way: if you do decide to be nice and help us help you and all other budget unstructured exploratory travelers whenever they need our help, IT'S TAX-DEDUCTIBLE (if you pay taxes in the U.S. and possibly in certain other countries), because it's a CONTRIBUTION to a NON-PROFIT CAUSE.
